Besciamella Sauce

Total Time: 20 mins Preparation Time: 10 mins Cook Time: 10 mins

Ingredients

  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 3 tablespoons flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/8 teaspoon dried thyme

Recipe

  • 1 in a small saucepan, combine milk and chicken broth; bring just to a simmer over medium-low heat; keep warm.
  • 2 in a heavy medium saucepan, melt butter over low heat.
  • 3 add flour and cook, stirring 2-3 minutes without allowing flour to brown.
  • 4 remove from heat and whisk in hot milk and stock.
  • 5 return to low heat and cook, whisking occasionally, 4-5 minutes, until sauce is medium thick.
  • 6 season with salt, pepper, nutmeg and thyme.
